Sam was awarded the Anette Johansen-Quale Scholarship, which is awarded to anyone under 30 who is working or studying in spinal cord injury. The scholarship is named after a member of ESPA who sadly passed away at the age of 30.

The theme of the conference was "psychological approaches to managing co-morbidity, incomplete spinal cord injury and higher age at injury". The talks covered discussion of psychological wellbeing, quality of life and improving care.
