Trainee Clinical Psychologist

I am in my third and final year of training. For this year I am on my elective placement, specialising in clinical health psychology applied to two areas of practice: HIV, and children's psychological medicine (paediatrics). Both parts of my placement are in services provided by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - at the Churchill Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital, which are both in Oxford.

Earlier in training, my core placements were in:

  • Adult Psychological Services in Reading, Berkshire
  • South Oxfordshire's Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
  • North Oxfordshire's Community Learning Disability Team
  • Wokingham's Community Older Adults Mental Health Service in Berkshire.

My experiences prior to training include working in both adult and adolescent learning disability services, supporting dementia research with older people, and working in a forensic inpatient service for women.

Professional Interests

I am interested in people's sense of self and identity, matters of difference and diversity, power dynamics, and promoting the autonomy of people who use healthcare services.

My dissertation focuses on forensic populations. I aim to conduct a systematic review of recovery within this field, as well as carrying out a qualitative study with service users who have been recalled to a secure hospital from conditional discharge in the community following inpatient treatment.
